Hand and Surface Sanitizer
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a ruling allowing companies to make hand and general surface sanitizer products under a temporary license. The Church Street Brewing Company applied for and received a license under this program.
The FDA defined an 80 volume-% ethanol-based formulation in addition to a 75 volume-% isopropyl alcohol formulation. Church Street elected to proceed with the ethanol formulation.
This FDA sanitizer formulation has a low-viscosity by design. It is watery. The FDA was very clear in their instructions. They do not want any thickening agents added to this formulation. The FDA specifications are intended to provide maximum effectiveness against a virus, not just bacteria. The watery texture also makes it easy to use in spray bottles for sanitizing general surfaces in addition to use as a hand sanitizer.
Please read the label on the can before using this sanitizer. In addition to following all of the instructions, please pay close attention to the following:
1. This liquid is flammable. Do not use it near an open flame such as the pilot light of a gas stove.
2. Keep this sanitizer away from your face and eyes.
Once opened, the can of sanitizer may be used to fill spray bottles, hand pump bottles, or small bottles for personal use. If you need additional labels for these transfer bottles, please stop by our brewery in Itasca and we will provide labels to you for free.
Thank you very much, Lisa and Joe Gregor
